  3. of linear, area, or volume expansion. The
  4. coefficient of linear expansion `alpha' is
  5. the increase in unit length per degree
  6. temperature rise; area, or superficial,
  7. expansion `beta' is the increase in unit area
  8. per degree; and volume, or cubic, expansion
  9. `gamma'is the increase in unit volume per
  10. degree. As a close approximation, `beta'=
